[Introduction to Research]: 9th Assignment in PeerGrade System
Dear Learners,
The submission phase for the PeerGrade assignment will end today. Once again let us remind all of you that this assignment is available in a separate portal named - PeerGrade. Each enrolled learner has been sent an invite from this application for accessing this assignment. Without accepting this invite you will not be able to do this assignment. If you have already accepted the invite and forgotten the password, please click the "Forgot Password" link to reset your password.
As per the count taken at 12:00 PM today 945 learners have enrolled in PeerGrade. Among these, 259 have already completed the first phase of submission (See fig below)
We have re-sent the invite to the remaining unenrolled learners (see fig below)

We have been receiving several posts in discussion forum and course email id about non-receipt of email invitations. So here is clarification on the key instructions to perform this assignment.
- Read the instructions available here
- Check your registered email address to see if you have received an email from "noreply@peergrade.io" with the subject: "You have been added to the class noc19-ge03: Introduction to Research"
- If the email is not seen in your main inbox, check the SPAM folder too
- For those who have already registered in the platform, please continue using the same password and login to the PeerGrade system and go to step 4. If you have forgotten the password, click on "Forgot Password" and provide your email address to receive the password reset link.
- Click on the button "Sign In" button and then follow the instructions in page 5 and set the password
- There is one change in the process, instead of clicking on the earlier practice assignment (that is now closed), you will have to click on "Graded Assignment: Reading an Abstract"
- A peer review activity will involve the following processes:
- You read a given set of abstracts and select one of them from a given category that you are able to understand better. [Pages 7 and 8 in the instruction document]
- You copy paste the entire abstract (along with given list of references) and paste in the submission box. You also add a one line summary of what you understood from the abstract [Pages 9 and 10 in the instruction document]
- Once the submission window is closed, you will be assigned a submission by one or more of your peers for review. You will have to review the assigned submission based on the rubric provided to you in the system [Pages 11 and 12 in the instruction document]
There are some key differences in the evaluation of this assignment.
- Your score in this assignment will have three parts - Your Submission score (based on how your peers have evaluated you) + Your Review Score (Based on how you have evaluated your peers) + Participation points (based on how you participate in the activity)
- Your submission will have a weight of 60% (6 marks out of 10), your reviews will have a weight of 40%(4 marks out of 10)
- A participation points of 5 will be added if you complete both submission and review (i.e. you have chance to score a maximum of 15/10!!!!)
We have extended the submission timeline by 2 more hours (i.e. till 20:00 hours IST). Kindly request you to use this minor extension to initiate the submission so that you will take part in the peer review process.

Introduction to Research: Clarification on 9th Assignment
Dear Learner,
Here are some important clarifications regarding 9th Assignment.
- The 9th assignment is the graded peer review assignment released in the PeerGrade portal.
- To access this assignment you will have to accept the invitation sent from PeerGrade portal to your registered email address.
- Instructions on how to accept the invitation, how to submit and how to do peer review were shared during 2nd and 6th week of this course
- The peer review process has two phases:
- Submission phase - This will end on 30th April, 2019 at 6 PM - You will have to read a given set of abstracts (Downloadable from PeerGrade) and copy paste one of the abstracts (that you understood really well), along with its references, and a one line summary if it as your submission
- Review phase - This will end on 5th May, 2019 at 6PM - You will have to review two of your peers' submission and evaluate it based on a rubric (Checklist/Criteria)
48 learners have already done the submissions. Please use the upcoming days to complete your submission.

Introduction to Research: Graded Peer review assignment released
Dear Learners,
Best wishes for the exam!!
As announced earlier, we have prepared a Graded assignment for peer review and has been released through PeerGrade.
This one is similar to the practice assignments where in you have to copy an abstract (from the given set of abstracts) and write a one-line summary of what you have understood from it. Please note, your submission should contain the following:
1. The abstract that you read
2. The list of works cited in the abstract (or bibliography)
3. One-line summary of the abstract
Every peer review will have two parts – Your Submission and Your Review. Only when you do both will the activity be complete. The assignment is worth 10 marks. Since this is a graded activity we are providing you an incentive of additional 5 marks if you do both submission and review. i.e. you will get 15 marks for your participation.
For the calculation of the final score, we will consider this as the 9th course assignment and select the best 6 out of the 9 for the 25% calculation.
The due dates for the activity is as follows:
Submission due by: 30-April-2019, 6:00 PM IST
Reviews due by: 5-May-2019, 6:00 PM IST

[Introduction to Research] About the PeerGrade Assignment
Dear Learners,
The first Peer Grade practice assignment was closed on 24th-March. Out of the 213 people who submitted, 73 have completed the peer review process. We had also floated a survey last week to understand the reasons for low participation in the peer review process. Till now we have received only 18 responses. Majority of the respondents indicated that they would want to re-attempt the peer-review activity if provided a chance.
Keeping these facts in mind, we are extending the due date of filling the survey to 31-March-2019. Kindly use this opportunity to let us know whether you would want to participate in the peer review activity. If there are more than 60 positive responses, we will be creating another peer-review activity through Peer Grade. You can fill the survey by clicking on this
link.

[Introduction to Research] About the PeerGrade Assignment
Dear Learner,
The PeerGrade assignment that was provided in Week 2 is now into its second phase, i.e. Peer Review. We request the learners who have submitted the initial part of the assignment to complete the review that has been allotted to them by accessing the PeerGrade interface. You can follow the instructions given in this
document to perform the Peer review.
We have been receiving many queries from learners related to the PeerGrade assignment. So here are clarifications on the top 2 queries:
Q: Is PeerGrade Assignment a graded activity? And should we all compulsorily do it?
Ans: This is a practice activity and hence there are no grades associated with it. However, it is good that you get familiarized with the process of peer review.
Q: I have not attempted the activity as I did not know what to do. What shall I do now?
Ans: Do not worry. If there are many of you who are keen on doing this, we will release a practice activity soon. Please fill this
form to let us know your interest in doing this activity. Kindly complete this form by March 24th, 11:59 PM IST. This will help us make a quick decision.
If you have any more queries on this assignment, please post them in the discussion forum. We will definitely address them.

[Introduction to Research] Extension for Peer Grade Assignment by a day
Dear Learners,
Last week, we had introduced an optional practice activity for "Peer Review" through an external application called PeerGrade. We see that only 167 of the 508 learners enrolled have attempted the first part of this activity till now.
Please note that quite unlike the other objective assignments. this activity is an opportunity that you will get as a learner to experience the process followed in actual research to build consensus and advance the boundaries of knowledge. We strongly believe that all learners will be benefitted by this exercise and hence we are extending the due date of submission by a day (i.e. 10:00 AM on 15th March 2019). Please take this opportunity to complete the first phase of this practice activity.
All you have to do to submit is:
- Enroll in the class "noc19-ge03: Introduction to Research" class in PeerGrade application if you have not already done it (We have resend invites to 6000 learners who have not enrolled yet)
- Enter the class and check the first practice assignment - "Practice Assignment: Reading an abstract"
- Download the file having multiple abstracts from various domains
- Select the abstract that you can understand and copy paste the abstract (along with references) in the submission
For more detailed instructions on submission and review please check
this document.
Hoping to see many more of you trying to use this application and take part in the peer review activity. Once again please note that this is a practice activity and there will be no impact on your grade.

Introduction to Research: Practice Assignment for Peer Review
Dear Learner,
In the content provided in Week 2 you have been exposed to the process of literature review as well as tools and techniques to perform citation of existing literature being referred. Now we will provide you with a practice exercise that will empower you to identify best practices in communicating your research.
Communicating about our research activities is essential, and motivating our work based on available literature is also crucial. This assignment is designed to expose you to various facets of technical writing. A paragraph of literature review is the basis on which this assignment will be evaluated. In the literature review paragraph, it is important to:
- convey a technical message, clearly and cogently
- format appropriately
- acknowledge literature sources correctly
As a trial for this exercise of writing, we are going to enable a peer-review assignment. This will have following stages:
- Selection of example literature review paragraph within allotted time
- Grading of others' submission (this is called peer-review) within allotted time
- Responding to comments/judgements for your selected paragraph
We will be using an external application called PeerGrade to perform this activity. More instructions on how to do this assignment and how to use PeerGrade is available inside. You will be shortly receiving an email from the PeerGrade application about the assignment.
Thank you.
