Regarding Week 5 Programming Assignment

Hi everyone,

A few of you are saying that your code is not working on the private test cases whereas it is on the public ones. We have checked a few of these cases and this is happening because of inconsistencies in the code. Please make sure you are not making any other assumptions apart from those in the instructions. Please make sure you are splitting the data correctly and are accounting for all possible corner cases which may arise in the private test cases.

Thanks,
TAs.

Regarding Week 5 Programming Assignment Output

Hi everyone,

In the programming assignment for week 5, it is mentioned that your output must be sorted based on increasing order of due date, and for books due on the same date, order based on increasing order of the full (student) name. Note that if this is also the same, please sort based on the Accession Number, and then finally, the title of the book.

Sorry for not making this clear beforehand!

The sorted() function in python may be of help.

NPTEL Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms using Python - Week 5 programming assignment deadline extended

In view of the clarification regarding the output format, the deadline is extended by two days to Saturday, 9 March.

FAQ/Comments regarding online forum-- Part 1

Hi everyone,

Here are some pointers regarding posting on the forum:

  • Please try and google your query/error or lookup python3 documentation before asking on the forum. Many times, the questions asked are very easy to answer by spending less than a minute online. Regardless, it will help you grow as you will get access to multiple perspectives. You will also get immediate responses. It will also save us time and effort.
  • Please do not post requests for make-up quizzes and assignments. There is no way we can have these so such posts just spam the forum for everyone. Also, please don't worry if you are unable to submit an assignment or quiz, as there will be many avenues for you to make-up.
  • Many of you seem to have issues with the online compiler. In your code (specifically, in the functions you write), please make sure you are 'returning' the quantity of interest instead of 'printing' it. This is a big reason behind many queries.
  • Also, for all quiz questions where the answer is a string, it is clearly mentioned atop the quiz that one must enclose the answer in single or double quotes, so please follow this protocol. Many people faced this issue in the famed 'wombat' question.
That's all for now. We will keep you posted.

Thanks,
TAs :)
