If you have registered and paid successfully for the April28/29 NPTEL Online certification exams, your Admit Card/Hall ticket is now available at http://nptelonlinecourses.i
Login with your registered Google-enabled account email id (used to access the course on the portal and used for registering for the exam) and its password to access the link. Click on April exam to download the hall ticket(s) for the April28/29 exams, from the link.

Please download hall ticket, take a print out and along with a original ID card, carry it with you to the exam venue (The exam centre address is displayed in the hall ticket). Read all instructions given in the admit card/ hall ticket carefully and follow them.
Download hall tickets for all the exams you have registered for - in case you don't get the hall tickets for any particular course, please write to nptelexam@nptel.iitm.ac.in .

Week 8:
Week 8 introduces the concept of expectation of a random variable and follows it up with properties of expectation and variance of a random variable. Week 8 then extends the concept of expectation to the two variables scenario and follows it up with the concepts of covariance and variance. Week 8 also contains five example videos explaining the computation of expectations for important distributions, examples of variance, computation of expectations and variance for continuous distributions, for cases involving symmetry, and for discrete distributions. We suggest you to follow these lectures closely as the concept of expectation plays an important role in characterizing a random variable .

Week 7:
Week 7 deals with the joint distributions of two continuous random variables, starting with the idea of viewing the entire x-y plane as a sample space, and formalizes the concepts of joint probability density function and cumulative distribution function of two continuous random variables, explains about assigning probability to regions in x-y plane and independence of two continuous random variables. Week-7 then introduces the concept of transformations of random variables and explains about computing the CDF and PDF of the resulting random variable using the CDF or PDF or both of the original random variable. We suggest you to follow these lectures closely as the concept of continuous random variables in the x-y plane will be used frequently henceforth.

Week 3 introduces and formalizes the concepts of Independence of events, Combining independent experiments, Conditional independence and introduces binomial and geometric models which are framed according to these concepts. Week-3 also contains three lecture videos showcasing detailed examples on how to apply the concepts of independence of events and conditional independence to solve probability problems, followed by examples of binomial and geometric models.

NPTEL Online Course on Probability Foundations For Electrical Engineers - Week 02 Lectures and Assignment 02 Available Now!
Dear Students,
We are glad to inform you that the Week-02 lectures of the course Probability Foundations for Electrical Engineers are now available on the course portal. Please visit the course URL https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/noc18_ee01/course to access these lecture videos. We would also like to inform all the students starting to follow the course from this week or visiting the course portal for the first time that the prerequisite Week-0 content and Week-01 lectures are already available on the course portal, along with Assignment-0(doesn't count for the final score) and Assignment-01.
To facilitate all those who are interested to join the course, enrolment for the course is going to be open till 5 PM on 12 February 2018 (i.e. tomorrow).
Week-02 : Conditional probability
Week-02 introduces the concepts of conditional probability (probability of occurence an event given that another event has occurred), multiplication theorem of probability, total probability theorem obtained by application of conditional probability to partitions, followed by the very important Bayes rule, which deals with the posterior probability. Week-02 also contains two lecture videos showcasing detailed examples on how to apply conditional probability and Bayes rule to solve various probability problems. We advise you to follow all the lectures closely and take notes of the concepts, besides trying out the examples, to make the most of this course.

We wish to inform you that the assignment for Week-02 is now available on the portal. From this week onwards (i.e. 12/02/2018) Assignments will be uploaded along with that week's content on the Monday of that week and will close on 11:59 PM (IST) on the Friday of the following week(i.e. 23/02/2018 in the case of week 02), giving you twelve days of time. Requests for extension of submission deadlines for any reason, whatsoever, would not be entertained.

Week-01 : Probability Space
Week-01 deals with the important notion of probability space. We begin with basic operations on events and then formally define the concepts of sigma fields(collection of events to which probability is assigned) and the probability function itself.We then apply these concepts to discrete sample spaces and then learn to compute the probability of an event. Week-01 also contains two lecture videos showcasing detailed examples of calculating the size of the sample space or an event of an experiment and computing probability of an event using probability of equally likely outcomes of an experiment. We advise you to follow the lectures closely and take down notes of the concepts, besides trying out the examples, to make the most of this course.

Welcome to the course "Probability Foundations for Electrical engineers "
Dear student
Welcome to NPTEL Online Courses and Certification!
Thank
you for signing up for our online course "Probability Foundations for
Electrical Engineers". We wish you an enjoyable and informative learning
experience.
The course will begin on Fe b 05, 2018. When
content is released on the portal, you will get an email alerting you.
Please watch the lectures, follow the course regularly and submit all
assessments and assignments before the due date. Your regular
participation is vital for learning.
We will open registration
for the exam soon after the course starts. A form has to be filled and
the certification exam has a fee, which needs to be paid at the time of
registration. Everyone who has signed-up for the course, including those
who do not register for the exam, will continue to have access to the
course contents.
There are two sections on the portal apart from the course content and assignment sections:

The announcement list which will only have messages from course
instructors and teaching assistants - regarding the lessons,
assignments, exam registration, hall tickets etc.

discussion forum which is for everyone to ask questions and interact -
