If you have registered and paid successfully for the April28/29 NPTEL Online certification exams, your Admit Card/Hall ticket is now available at http://nptelonlinecourses.iitm.ac.in/

Login with your registered Google-enabled account email id (used to access the course on the portal and used for registering for the exam) and its password to access the link. Click on April exam to download the hall ticket(s) for the April28/29 exams, from the link.

Dear Students,
As per the forum feed back, we have removed three ambiguous QSs (6, 10 and 18) from the assignment
and re-evaluated the score so that you will not be loosing any mark.
Kindly check your updated scores.

Yes, There is no issue in Qs-7. It's explanation is given below:

It is getting converted to BCNF is fine, but the type of redundancies handled is partial dependency. 
     It may happen that obviously the schema may in turn also be in 3 NF, or BCNF
     but the conversion type is different.
     The functional dependencies of the parent table violated 2 NF

      Partial dependency: 2 NF
      transitive dependency: 3 NF
      superkey and non prime attribute: BCNF

You need to understand the violation is happening for which normal form. It is not other than 2NF. So the most correct answer is 2NF

Database Management System: Exam and Certificate Format

Dear student

The certification exam will be conducted at designated centres in the city chosen by you. You have to register for the exam by filling up the form, paying the exam fee, appear in person and score >= 40% to get the certificate.

Exam registration form closes on March 14, 2018 - 5 pm (Wednesday).

Type of exam: Computer based exam 

You will have to appear at the allotted exam centre and produce your Hall ticket and Government Photo Identification Card(Example: Driving License,Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-ID with your Name, date of birth, photograph and signature) for verification and take the exam in person. You can find the allotted exam center details in the hall ticket.

The questions will be on the computer and the answers will have to be entered on the computer; type of questions may include multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, essay type answers, etc

The hall ticket will be available for download tentatively around 10 - 16th April 2018. We will notify the same through email.
 
FINAL CERTIFICATE:

The final score = 25% assignment score + 75% final certification exam score.
The final score will determine if you will/will not receive a certificate.

1. Final score < 40%: NO certificate

2. Final score between 40% -59%: Certificate of type "Successfully completing the course"

3. Final score between 60% -89%: Certificate with tag "Elite" printed at the top

4. Final score of 90% and above: Certificate with "Elite" tag and the gold medal printed on it.

DBMS: Assignment Scoring scheme

Dear students,
Most of you are confused the way assignment score is calculated. So we are clarifying this.
1. The assignment score you are getting in %age not in form of mark.
     Example: Suppose there are 10 QSs (let's say each of two mark: 10X2=20marks in total) and you corrected 8 out of 10, your score will be 80% (= [16/20] * 100).

2. Now next question come up in your mind: some of you are getting score like 75% or 73%, then how does it happen.
     It happens due to partial marking in multiple select QSs(MSQ), where there can be multiple correct answers.
     Example-1: Let's say out of 10 QSs, there is only one MSQ type question (where two correct answers are allowed). Now let's take same example as above.
                        you corrected 7QSs fully and you chose only one correct answer out of two in the 8th QS which is MSQ type. The total mark you scored = 7X2+1x1 = 15
                        So in %age of your score = [15/20]*100 = 75%
     Example-2: Let's say out of 10 QSs, there is only one MSQ type question (where three correct answers are allowed). Now let's take same example as above.
                        you corrected 7QSs fully and you chose only one correct answer out of three in the 8th QS which is a MSQ type. The total mark you scored = 7X2+1x0.6 = 14.6
                        So in %age of your score = [14.6/20]*100 = 73%

Note: in MSQ type, if you select any wrong answer along with the correct answer then you will be getting zero for that QS. i.e no partial marking is done on the selection of any wrong answer.

Welcome to NPTEL Online Course: Database Management System

Welcome to NPTEL Online Courses and Certification!
 

Thank you for signing up for our online course "Database Management System". We wish you an enjoyable and informative learning experience.

The course will begin on Feb 05, 2018. When content is released on the portal, you will get an email alerting you. Please watch the lectures, follow the course regularly and submit all assessments and assignments before the due date. Your regular participation is vital for learning.
 
We will open registration for the exam soon after the course starts. A form has to be filled and the certification exam has a fee, which needs to be paid at the time of registration. Everyone who has signed-up for the course, including those who do not register for the exam, will continue to have access to the course contents.

There are two sections on the portal apart from the course content and assignment sections:

  • The announcement list which will only have messages from course instructors and teaching assistants - regarding the lessons, assignments, exam registration, hall tickets etc.    
  • The discussion forum which is for everyone to ask questions and interact - If you have any questions regarding the technical content in the lectures, any doubts in the assignments or any question related to the exam, registration, hall tickets, results, etc, kindly write about this in the forum and the course instructor/TA will respond to it. Please use this well and participate to benefit from the course.
