Update on International Cancer Proteogenome Consortium (ICPC)

Dear Students,

Prof. Sanjeeva Srivastava is currently in Orlando, Florida where he presented India’s vision, progress and plans for cancer proteogenomics research.

The International Cancer Proteogenome Consortium (ICPC), provides a forum for collaboration among some of the world's leading cancer and proteogenomic research centers.  Catalyzed by the effort of the Cancer MoonshotSM (White House Fact Sheet - Australia(link is external); White House Fact Sheet - United Nations Good Summit(link is external)) to encourage international cooperation and investments among nations in cancer research and care, as well as new efforts in precision medicine, the International Cancer Proteogenome Consortium (ICPC) was launched in late 2016.  The ICPC brings together more than a dozen countries to study the application of proteogenomic analysis in predicting cancer treatment success and to share data and results with researchers worldwide, hastening progress for patients. IIT Bombay and Tata Memorial Centre have joined this initiative, and now India has become 12th country to participate in ICPC.

Regarding queries

Dear Students,

This is your TA, Shuvolina here, while many of you did post some really intriguing questions I do see some very basic questions being asked in the forum as in what is 'this' or that? We do appreciate all questions but I feel that for knowing a definition or a term it is best to look up the book or internet just the way you learn much more when you actually open the dictionary in search of the meaning and also end up learning some new words!

While we are more that happy to answer all your queries I do encourage you to expand your horizons and become the explorer who knows what you might stumble upon!!

Happy Learning! Also, for all exam related stuffs please contact NPTEL office they are the best people to guide you regarding the same as they are the ones conducting the exams.

Thanks and regards,
Shuvolina, PhD Student.

Live session Week 2 update

Dear Students,

It was nice interacting with you in a live session today evening. Our aim was to give a re-cap of week-2 contents and show you how to do these molecular biology experiments in the lab. Further, more importantly many experiments don't work out and how to trouble shoot them. We also tried to give certain examples related to malaria, TB, Cancer and in which way innovations in PCR and DNA sequencing technology have started making a revolution in healthcare.

These are the two links (there was some interruption so live session continued in second link also) for today's live session of Week 2.

Welcome message

Dear Students,
I am very pleased to welcome you to the MOOC course on Bioengineering: An interface with Biology and Medicine. The course is mainly designed for young engineers who have a keen interest in Biology or students who are on the crossroad of deciding whether to go for biology/ medicine or engineering?

The aim is to expose young students like you to real-world biological, clinical and global health challenges. Real problems are always solved through shared responsibilities. It is extremely important to integrate the fundamental principles of biology and engineering to be able to solve real-world problems. This course provides resources for students to think, design, and develop prototypes for solutions to real-world biological, clinical and global health problems.

I have been teaching Biology to engineering undergraduates at IITB for the last four years and also had an opportunity to teach this course to students at IIT Goa during the last two years. The response has been terrific. The students were very innovative and came up with a lot of possible solutions using their engineering knowledge and skills.

I am here to support you every step of the way.  I encourage you to be more interdisciplinary in your approach.  Make the best use of this course and go beyond the course content to understand the subject and think about the problems that need your attention and skills.

We will meet on Friday at 5 PM for a live informal interactive session.
