This week there will be 6 lectures and an assignment.
The first three lectures will cover the remaining concepts on reacting turbulent flows like closure problem associated with the chemical source term and transport processes. The remaining three lecture will give a comprehensive picture of the turbulent non-premixed flames. Here we will discuss, the Favre averaging, an analysis in the mixture fraction space, Crocco transformation, regimes of turbulent non-premixed combustion, length and time scales, the concept of scalar dissipation rate, closure model etc.

The due date for Assignment 7, released last week, is 11:59 pm on 13Sept, 2017.

IMPORTANT - EVALUATION OF ASSIGNMENT 6

Hello Everyone,

There have been some errors in two questions of Assignment 6. In question 6, multiple options were correct, but the provision to select only one was available. In question 8, the correct solution does not match with any of the given options. These errors were pointed to us by some students, and we are thankful to them for their valuable feedback. However, since the due date for the assignment is already over, we've decided that these questions will NOT be considered for the final evaluation of this assignment. Kindly make a note of it by verifying your final scores.

CONTENT FOR WEEK-7 IS RELEASED

Hello Everyone,

Warm Greetings!! The content for week-7 is released.

This week we'll begin to learn and understand one of the important areas of combustion - turbulent combustion. Understanding turbulent combustion is important because combustion (premixed or non-premixed) in many practical engineering devices, such as engines (spark-ignition, gas turbine), industrial burners, and in many natural phenomena, such as forest fires, etc. is essentially turbulent.  Additionally, turbulent combustion is an area of active research with a lot of unexplored avenues. This week there will be 5 lectures and an assignment. We'll begin with an introduction to turbulent flows. Following that two lectures will briefly present non-reacting turbulent flows. The final two lectures will deal with reacting turbulent flows. The following couple of weeks will then cover the remaining topics on reacting turbulent flows: non-premixed turbulent flames and premixed turbulent flames.

The deadline for the assignment 7 is 11:59 pm on 13-09-2017.

The deadline for the assignment 6 is 11:59 pm on 06-09-2017, which is this Wednesday. The solution for it will be released on Thursday morning.
