Correction in assignment 2
Dear Students,
A typo in Q8 of assignment 2 was pointed out to us in the forum. The value in the question should be 69% rather than 68%. We have updated the question. Note that the options have not been changed. In case you have already submitted the assignment, but your answer changes due to the updated value, you are requested to re-submit the entire assignment. In case there is no change in your answer, then there is no requirement for you to re-submit your assignment.

Regarding private groups for this course
Dear Students,
I expect all of you would have noticed the multiple posts on the forum for joining WhatsApp groups related to this course. While we encourage communications and discussions among students, we would like to make a few clarifications.
1. There is no official WhatsApp group for this course. Any such group is an initiative by individual students.
2. Any issues brought up in such groups regarding this course will find no response from our side. We will only be able to respond to issues brought up in the forum accessible through the course home page.
Finally, I urge members of such groups to share any interesting issues or points raised in these groups on the forum as well. As all of you can appreciate, discussions on the forums do not benefit only those who initiate them, but also other students going through the posts with similar doubts. Thus, it would be great if important discussions happening in private groups could also be shared in the forums so that all of us can benefit.

Priyatosh
Guidelines for accessing course content
Dear Students,
We still see several posts on the forum asking how to access the course or videos or how to submit assignments. In case you are still not comfortable with the use of the online portal, please go through the guidelines given below.
1. How to access the course?
Go to https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/noc16_mg06/. First of all, you have to login to access the contents of the course. See the login button in the right side of the page. You have to give your login credentials with which you registered. Note that it is important to use the email ID with which you registered for the course, otherwise you will not be able to access all the content.
If you are already logged into gmail with that account, when you go to the link, you will see that you are already logged in to the platform.
If you are logged on to any other account when you go to the course link, first log out of the current account and login back with the account you used for registering for the course.
If you don't see the login button but you see your id there, you are already logged in.
If you don't see anything to the right top, it is likely that your browser has a problem. Update your browser to the latest one.
2. How to access the videos?
Once you login, you will see a panel on the left side called Course Outline. Below that you will see unit headers listed. Click on a particular unit and you will see that the different lessons will be listed one after the other. Click on the lesson names and you will see videos starting with the lesson.
Some of you expressed difficulty in watching youtube videos in your campus. The videos are also hosted at http://nptel.ac.in/courses/110106072/. You can either watch the video there or even use the download links to download and watch locally.
Note that, to submit assignments and quizzes, you have to come to the platform (see how to do that below). The above link is only for video downloads.
3. How to submit quizzes?
You will see that, every week, along with the lessons, there will be a quiz. This quiz will be listed as the last item in the last unit posted every week. Click on Quiz link and the questions will open in the panel on the right. The questions are multiple choice or multiple selection kind of questions. You can take the quiz as many times as you can and whenever you want. There is no penalty on the number of times you take the quiz. Every quiz will have a deadline that is prominently displayed at the right top. Once the deadline is past, you will not be able to make submissions any more.
Once the deadline for an assignment passes, you can check your score for the corresponding assignment by clicking on the Progress tab (at the top, next to the Forum tab).
5. How to access the forum?
To access the forum, you have to login to the platform and click on Forum link at the top. You will see email discussions that the class is having and it is usually sorted by recency.
Before you post a question on the forum, spend some time looking at the questions that are already there. It is very likely that your question is answered already. Effective participation in an online course requires you to use the forum effectively. If you ask a question that has been answered several times already, it is very unlikely that you will get a response, and sending the email more times is not going to help. Use the forum search facility effectively to see if your question is answered. Above all, exercise patience and be polite in the forums. After all, all of us are there to learn and enjoy the course.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Priyatosh
Regarding assignments
Dear Students,
In view of the extension to the deadline for registering for this course, we are extending the assignment 1 deadline to Monday, August 1. Please note that there will be no further deadline extension for assignment 1 and also that the deadline for assignment 2 remains unchanged. I would request students who have joined the course recently to try their best to meet these deadlines.
I would also like to make a clarification with regards to the use of statistical tables in the assignments. As many of you would have noticed, there are questions in assignment 2 which require the use of statistical tables to solve them. In the lectures, we have talked about different tools and commands that can be used for solving such questions. However I would like to clarify that in the final exams, you will have to rely on tables only, when answering such questions. Thus, I request all of you to become comfortable with the use of statistical tables for answering questions given in assignment 2 (as well as questions in upcoming assignments) besides learning relevant commands in different software.

Priyatosh

Welcome to the Introduction to Data Analytics course!
Dear Students,
Welcome to the Introduction to Data Analytics course! The course officially starts today, though as most of you who have been registered for a while know that the first week's content and assignment have already been released. Thus, for students who have signed up only recently, please login to your account on onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in to start going through the released material.
You can access the content from the home page of the Introduction to Data Analytics course, once you have logged in. The content can be accessed from the Course outline tab on the left of the page under the header 'Week 1 - Course Overview and Descriptive Statistics'. The assignment is the last link under that heading. The deadline for the assignment is July 27. You can submit the assignment any number of times, but please note that only the final submission will be considered for grading.
Since the release of the first module a couple of week's ago, the forum has been quite active. I request all of you to keep a tab on the forum posts and raise your own queries in case you have any doubts regarding the course or the lecture material. Post your queries regarding the lecture material under the 'Week 1' category and general queries regarding the course under the 'Admin' category. Also, if you have not introduced yourself, please do so under the 'Introduce yourself' thread. It is always great to hear from you and know your background and motivation for doing the course!
I would also like to address a couple of queries that we have been receiving in the forums. The first has to do with downloading the lecture videos. We do have separate website from which you can download the lecture videos as they get released each week. As soon as the first week's content is put up, we will be making an announcement regarding the same. Note however, that you will still have to login to the onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in website and go to the Introduction to Data Analytics course page to attempt and submit the assignments.
The second query is with regards to registering for the final exam. Again, once the registration process starts, an announcement will be made, so that those of you who are interested in signing up for the final exam can do so. Just to clarify, only those students who register for the final exam and appear for it will be receiving a certificate for this course.
Hopefully that answers some of the common questions many of you may be having. You can always use the forums to seek further clarifications.
Hope you have a great experience with this course!
Regards,
Priyatosh
