Kind attention: Queries/concerns regarding allotment of marks for questions with inconsistent answers
- Inconsistency between the correct answer selected by me and marks awarded for Question number 9 in Assignment 1
9) Which of the following statements are correct regarding defining inclusion and exclusion criteria in a study protocol?
a) They should be vague because this will allow greater and easy enrollment
b) They should be very specific
c) They should be very large in number
d) It is not important to define exclusion criteria in a clinical trial
Announcement made:
Typo error; Correct Option is (b)
We will assign 1 mark to all of those who submitted assignment 1 and chosen the correction option
However, this 1 mark will NOT be added to those who've scored (10/10) 100% in this assignment 1.
- Inconsistency between the correct answer selected by me and marks awarded for Question number 4 in Assignment 4
4. The measures of disease frequency are
a. Incidence
b. Prevalence
c. Birth rate
d. A and B
Announcement made:
Entry error in the system; Correct option is (d);
We will assign 1 mark to all of those who submitted assignment 4
However, this 1 mark will NOT be added to those who've scored (10/10) 100% in this assignment 4.
- Inconsistency between the correct answer selected by me and marks awarded for Question number 4 in Assignment 8
10. Biases can occur during which stage of epidemiological study?
a. Study design
b. Study implement action
c. Data analysis
d. Any of the above
Announcement made:
We observed that due to technical problem, there was an error in the allotment of mark for one of the questions in assignment 8.
We will assign 1 mark to all of those who submitted assignment 8
However, this 1 mark will NOT be added to those who've scored (10/10) 100% in this assignment 8.
- Issue of Week 7 Assignment 19 – Question No. 10
10. Which of the following is not true regarding issues related to informed consent?
a) Informed consent benefit both the participants and investigators
b) The language used in Informed consent should be local, simple and clear
c) Audiovisual consent is mandatory for all investigational new drug trials in India
d) Written informed consent form is a requirement for phase III drug trials
As per the clarification issued earlier
(given in brackets), a recent DCGI notification has clarified that AV recording
is not mandatory for all investigational new drug trials in India.[Audio-visual
consent is a relatively recent regulatory requirement and
is evolving. Although the regulation of DCGI dated 07/06/2013 (notification
number.G.S.R 364E) mentioned that audio-visual
recording of the consent in case of investigational new
drugs (IND) is mandatory, a recent guideline [DCGI notification numberG.S.R390
(E) dated 18/05/2015] has clarified the following:
A. Audio-Visual Recording of Informed Consent Process shall only be mandatory for cases where vulnerable population is involved & the trial is of New Chemical Entity or New Molecular Entity.
B. For clinical trials of Anti-HIV and anti-Leprosy drugs, only audio recording of the informed consent process shall be mandatory.
The clause B specifically addresses the concern raised in the question. In case of conditions, where there is stigma and sensitivities involved, protecting the privacy of the participants becomes critically important.
However, it is also important to understand that this recommendation has been brought in to ensure that the consent process has been done in a fair manner and with full understanding by the participant. It also documents that there is no coercion or force or pressure or incentive used by the investigators to influence study participation.
Also, in practice, while recording AV consent of the participant, if the participant desires not to reveal the identity, the camera can be set in such a way that the identity of the person is masked or facial features made hazy on the video recording, but the voice can be authenticated if necessary by the regulatory authorities]
Hence, strictly speaking option (c) is right answer;
However, since your answer was based on the handout and lecture content, we have decided to add 1 mark to all of them who submitted assignment 19; However, this 1 mark will NOT be added to those who've scored (10/10) 100% in this assignment 19.
Please
remember that this addition will NOT be seen in your current score when you
click and check under the tab 'Progress'. However, we assure you that these marks will be added to the final score
for calculation for award of certificates for those who are appearing for exams.

Mentors
Dear All,
You may have seen a new tab called "mentor" in the top right corner of the course page. Some faculty of the colleges want to monitor the status of their students who have enrolled for the course. So their mail id's have been added in the mentor tab. The students of the colleges will select their mentors from the list.
For this the faculty should be enrolled to the particular course and then request his/her students to add him/her as the mentor. He/she can't access the students' progress or be a mentor if he/she hasn't enrolled for the online course. When the students select their mentor, the faculty of that college will able to see only the progress of the student who have selected him/her as a mentor. The faculty can see the tab "menthe list", where he/she can view the status of the students. The analytics of the student's progress will be received by the mentors only after their students add him/her as the mentor for their course.
Course participants who do not belong to those colleges need not bother about this.- NIeCer Team
Queries/concerns regarding submission of assignments
Dear All,
We have been getting lot of queries from all of you
regarding submission of assignments and marks scored. In particular, there was
an error in allotment of marks to two questions (Assignment 1-Question 9 and Assignment
4-Question 4). We thank you for pointing out these errors. We sincerely
apologize for the inadvertent error.
We will award 1 mark each to these two questions to all those who submitted
assignment 1 and assignment 4. Please remember that this addition will not be
seen in your current score when you click and check under the tab
'Progress'. However, we assure you that these marks will be added to the
final score for calculation.
Regards,

Certificate will be issued by NIE-ICMR and NPTEL to those who are successful in a final certification exam at the end of the course.
The certification exam will be conducted by us at the end of the course and the announcement about the registration for the exam will be made subsequently.
A form has to be filled and the certification exam has a fee (Rs. 1000), which needs to be paid at the time of registration.
Exams will be held online at designated centres in selected cities of India. The location of examination centres will depend on the number of participants registering for the exam from a particular city. Final List of exam cities will be available in exam registration form.
Option 2: Course completion WITHOUT certification
If you are not interested in a certificate and just want to learn/refresh yourself about health research methods, you do not need to register for the exam.
However, you will continue to have access to the course contents until the end of the course duration.
10. Whether a person residing outside India can give the exam?
NPTEL conducts the final certification exam as a proctored exam where the candidate has to come in person to a centre in one of the cities listed in India and attend the exam. We do not have a process in place to conduct proctored exam for candidates outside India.
Hence, the students residing outside India can enroll and study these courses - but obtaining the certificate is not a possibility currently.
