NPTEL Python: Online programming test on Sep 17/24
30% of the marks for the course will come from an online programming test. Here are some details and clarifications about this test. Please read them carefully.
- The written exam continues to be on Sunday, September 18/25. This is a different exam. The written exam will be an objective exam, like the quizzes during the course.
- The online programming test will take place through the course webpage, https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/noc16_cs11/. It will appear as a new item on the Course Outline to the left of the page during the time that the test is active.
- There is no separate registration fee for this test. You can write this test even if you are not registered for the written exam on Sunday 18/25 September. However, if you are registered for the written exam, you should write this online programming test because it accounts for 30% of the final marks in the course.
- The online programming test will be conducted in four separate sessions on two days. Each session will be for 3 hours. The four sessions are Saturday, 17 September, 2:00–5:00 pm and 8:00-11:00 pm and Saturday, 24 September, 2:00–5:00 pm and 8:00-11:00 pm.
- You can attempt the test in any one session, independent of which written exam you are registered for (Sep 18/25). If you submit solutions to more than one of the online tests, you will be awarded the score for the first test that you attempt.
- The test will include questions where you have to write Python code as well as questions involving reading and understanding Python code.
- During the online programming test, the discussion forum will be disabled. You can ask clarifications by email to nptel.python.online.test@gmail.com.

NPTEL Python: Week 3 lectures
Week 3 lectures for Python are now available. There are 8 lectures.
NPTEL Python: Week 2 Quiz and Programming Assignment
Week 2 has both a quiz and a programming assignment.
- For quizzes, remember you can only submit once. You should be able to see your score after the deadline. Final exam questions will be of the same pattern as quizzes, so pay attention and check your answers after the correct solutions are announced.
- For this programming assignment, you have to write Python functions. Your function should return the value specified in the description of the problems. Do not print any messages or diagnostic information. Your code wll be evaluated automatically by comparing your program's output with the expected output, so any spurious output from your program will cause your answer to be reported as wrong.
There are some "public" test cases where you can see how your program does when you use "Compile and Run". Finally, you should "Submit" your code for evaluation. You will get a score on 100 based on how many test cases you solve correctly. These cases are "private", so you cannot see them.
Unlike the quiz, you can submit as many times as you like for programming assignments.
