Regarding assignments and forum participation
Dear Students,
In view of the extension to the deadline for registering for this course, we are extending the assignment 1 deadline to Monday, August 1. Please note that there will be no further deadline extension for assignment 1 and also that the deadline for assignment 2 remains unchanged. I would request students who have joined the course recently to try their best to meet these deadlines.
I would also like to mention that there were some changes made in some of the questions in assignment 2 after the assignment was made public. We observed no submission at the time the changes were made, so this should not be an issue for any of the students.
Finally, I would like to urge students to make use of the forum available for this course. Raising questions on the forums will allow us to clarify parts of the lectures that may not be clear to you. Additionally, such questions will benefit other students following the forum activity having similar doubts. Also note that the forums are not just for us to answer your questions, rather we encourage students to try and provide answers to questions raised in the forums and share their perspectives and expertise as well. The goal is to have healthy discussions on the forums with all students participating and from which all students can benefit.
Regards,
Priyatosh

Welcome to the Reinforcement Learning course!
Dear Students,
Welcome to the Reinforcement Learning course! The course officially starts today, though as most of you who have been registered for a while know that the first week's content and assignment have already been released. Thus, for students who have signed up only recently, please login to your account on onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in to start going through the released material.
You can access the content from the home page of the Reinforcement Learning course, once you have logged in. The content can be accessed from the Course outline tab on the left of the page under the header 'Week 1 - Introduction to RL and Immediate RL'. The assignment is the last link under that heading. The deadline for the assignment is July 27. You can submit the assignment any number of times, but please note that only the final submission will be considered for grading.
We have also released some preparatory material on probability theory and linear algebra. This is just a refresher for students who are a bit out of touch with the elementary concepts in these subjects. Note that Assignment 0, released along with the preparatory material is just for practice and self-evaluation. It will not count towards your final score.
Since the release of the first module we have been getting queries on the forum. I request all of you to keep a tab on the forum posts and raise your own queries in case you have any doubts regarding the course or the lecture material. Post your queries regarding the lecture material under the 'Week 1' category and general queries regarding the course under the 'Admin' category. Also, if you have not introduced yourself, please do so under the 'Introduce yourself' thread. It is always great to hear from you and know your background and motivation for doing the course!
I would also like to address a couple of queries that we have been receiving in the forums. The first has to do with downloading the lecture videos. We do have a separate website from which you can download the lecture videos as they get released each week. As soon as the first week's content is put up, we will be making an announcement regarding the same. Note however, that you will still have to login to the onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in website and go to the Reinforcement Learning course page to attempt and submit the assignments.
The second query is with regards to registering for the final exam. Again, once the registration process starts, an announcement will be made, so that those of you who are interested in signing up for the final exam can do so. Just to clarify, only those students who register for the final exam and appear for it will be receiving a certificate for this course.
Hopefully that answers some of the common questions many of you may be having. You can always use the forums to seek further clarifications.
Hope you have a great experience with this course!
Regards,
Priyatosh

Release of preperatory material
Dear Students,
Welcome to the course on Reinforcement Learning! Today we are releasing two tutorials, one on probability theory and the other on linear algebra.
