Request for Assignment Solutions
Hello,
We have been getting many requests for Assignment Solutions. I have a way in which all of you can benefit. There have been a large number of students submitting the assignments, so it is fair to expect that many would have got 80% or more marks in some assignment. I would request these students to take pictures of their assignment solutions (or scan them, if possible) and make a single PDF file out of it. Please email it to me at : rohit.supekar@gmail.com with the subject "Assignment X Solutions" where X is the correct assignment number (if you aren't able to merge the pictures together, please email me the raw images and I can do the conversions). Those who have Android phones can use an app called "CamScanner" for this.
I will personally check all the solutions and upload them only after verification. The assignment contributor will be given credits and his/her name will be featured on the course webpage. This is a chance to collectively learn and also get a little famous! I can certainly solve the assignments and put up the solutions, but the way I would solve these questions may be very different than how you will solve them. It would also save some of my time. I look forward to receiving many emails. It is alright if some questions are missing, as long as you mention the same in your email.
I would be very thankful to you for your help.
Regards,
Rohit

Assignment 2 is out!
Hello,
The 2nd Assignment is currently available under Week-2. Deadline for submission is 21st Jan (Wednesday) 11:59 PM.
Note that you can submit this assignment only once. No submissions can be made after the deadline.
Important Note: It seems from the discussion forum that many of you did not attempt the Numeric question in Assignment 1 correctly. The system will consider only NUMBERS in the numeric question. Do not enter any alphabets! Decimal numbers can also be entered (both 12 or 12.00 will be considered as correct if 12 is the correct answer). Furthermore, we might look for an exact answer or check if the answer falls within some range. It is mentioned in the questions if an "exact" answer is expected or not.
Please note the "unit" of the final answer expected in the numeric questions. That is, if 5 kN is the answer and it is expected to be entered in kN, "5" would be the correct answer. 5 kN is certainly equal to 5000 N but entering "5000" will not fetch you any marks.
All the best! Do ask any submission related queries you might have on the discussion forum.
Regards,
Rohit

Demo Assignment is Out!
Hello Everyone,
A demo assignment is currently available under week 1. This assignment is only for demonstration purposes so that you can use this to get used to the way assignments need to be submitted. You will see your score after submission.
We will always have assignments with certain MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and certain numeric answer type questions.
In most cases, you would be allowed to submit the assignment only once!
Thanks,

For those who have registered for multiple courses.
Hello,
NPTEL has informed us that tentatively, every course will have an exam on both of these days : March 22nd and March 29th. You can choose either of these dates to write the exam for this course. You can then write the exam for the other course on the other day.
Therefore, at present, you can write exams for a maximum of 2 courses.
Regards,
Rohit

Welcome to the online course on "Engineering Mechanics"!
Hello Everyone,
Thank you for registering for this online course on "Engineering Mechanics" and I welcome you all.
As you would already be aware, this course begins on 5th January, 2015 (tomorrow). The lectures for the 1st week have already been uploaded and can be viewed on the course webpage. You can view these videos at any point of time, preferably before the weekly assignments. The assignments will be uploaded soon - please keep checking the announcements for further details.
As a reminder, I am copying here a message that NPTEL must have sent you after you registered for this course.
"We will open the registration for the exam on Feb 2 2015. A form has to be filled and the certification exam has a fee, which needs to be paid at the time of registration. The criterion for obtaining the certificate (which will be a combination of the assignment and the exam scores) will be announced shortly. Everyone who has signed-up, including those who have not registered for the exam, will continue to have access to the course contents.
There are two sections on the portal apart from the course content and assignment sections: The announcement list which will only have messages from course instructors and teaching assistants. The discussion forum which is for everyone to ask questions and interact. "
Lastly, I would encourage you to ask any queries on the discussion forum and we would be happy to answer them. Happy Learning!
Thanks and Regards,
