We are glad that you have attended the NPTEL online certification course" Feedback for Analog Circuits " which was conducted by Prof.Nagendra Krishnapura of IIT Madras between July1 - August 31 2015.
We hope you found the NPTEL Online course useful and have started using NPTEL extensively.
In
this regard, we would like to have a feedback from you regarding our
course and whether there are any improvements, you would like to
suggest.
It would be great to have a video feedback from you too
- where you can talk about your experience with our course , the portal
and how the course helped you (maybe for GATE preparation, campus
interviews or in your job, etc) . We request you to give your name, if
you are a student or a working professional and other details (such as
college name or work place, if you would want to), the course you took
and your feedback about the same. You can record this using your mobile
phone or your laptop/desktop using a webcam or with the help of a friend
and upload the same on YouTube and put the link below. We would go
through them and select the best videos for upload on our portal as
testimonials and in other videos we create about NPTEL for publicity

Analog Circuits: Exam pattern; Things to watch out for
The exam will have questions of the type familiar to you from the assignments. You will be given a circuit and asked questions about the circuit. There maybe more than one question about the same circuit. These will appear as "comprehensive" type in the exam where a circuit diagram and common data will be given and questions asked about that.
You will need a calculator. You need to enter the answer to one decimal accuracy in most cases.
In the first 6 assignments, and in the lessons, I used a common value of mu_n*Cox, W/L, and VT for convenience. But, when you have multiple transistors, there is no reason for this to be true. You can already see in the 7th assignment that transistors have different parameters. In the exam, don't blindly substitute the values you remember. For each problem, look at the parameters given for each transistor and use them appropriately.
A common confusion/source of error seems to be to assume that the gate voltage is itself the gate-source voltage. This is true if the source is grounded, but that is certainly not the case in all the problems. So, do look at what the source voltage is.
Analog Circuits: Exam syllabus; Remaining lessons and assignments
The exam will be based on the lectures for the first seven weeks which are already posted. The remaining lessons and assignments will be posted in the coming weeks.
The eighth assignment score will count towards the certification score(Best 5 of 8 will be taken).
All of the syllabus originally announced for the first 8 weeks, i.e. up to the pMOS transistor, have already been covered.

Analog Circuits: Sixth assignment-questions 3,4,5,6,7
For these questions, it is best if you carry out symbolic calculations all the way to the end and then substitute numerical values. If you do substitute numerical values in intermediate steps, do take care to have 4 or 5 decimal places. Otherwise, you could end up with final answers which are substantially in error.
Nagendra
The sixth assignment has been released. It is due on Saturday(August 22nd). If you face any difficulties post questions on the forum. (It is best if you create a new post with an appropriate subject line rather than reply to this message)
Analog Circuits: Clarifications on certification
Calculation of final score:
The final score will be calculated as follows.
Assignment score: All assignments carry equal weight(10 marks each). The total of best 5 of 8 assignments will be taken.
Exam score will be scaled to 50 and added to the total assignment score, also out of 50, to get the final score for the course, out of 100.
Assignment score for those who enrol late or submit fewer than 5 assignments:
If you enrol after the 4th week or for some other reason submit fewer than 5 assignments, those assignments will be counted and the remaining set to zero. i.e. if you submit only three assignments, your assignment total will be the total of those three plus zeros for two more. Total score will be calculated as above. If you did not submit any assignments at all, your assignment score will be zero and the total score will be calculated with that assignment score.
Who will be given a certificate:
All those who enrol and write the exam will get a certificate. Depending on the total score the certificate will reflect just participation or an appropriate higher level of achievement.
REMINDER: LAST 5 DAYS LEFT FOR REGISTERING FOR THE CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION - REGISTER TODAY!
Analog Circuits: Re-grading of assignments
As I had mentioned in a previous email, the platform is being modified to facilitate convenient re-grading of assignments. All your assignments will be re-graded with more tolerance on the last decimal point etc. In particular, the problem in the first assignment for which the exact answer was 6.25 will be re-graded accepting all answers between 6.2 and 6.3.
So if you see a score that seems to be in error, don't worry about it for now.
Nagendra

Welcome to "Analog Circuits"
A warm welcome to all of you to "Analog Circuits" from our team. Here are a few basic points about the course. Feel free to use the online forum for any queries you have. Enjoy!
Nagendra Krishnapura
About the course
- The course officially starts on 1st July 2015
- The course lasts 11 weeks
- For certification, completion of assignments for the first 8 weeks(basic concepts; analysis of circuits without storage elements) will be considered.
Lectures
- Each week, one unit, with a number of lessons under each unit, will be released. The total duration of lectures will be about 2.5 hours per week. The lectures will be released as per the schedule which will be in a separate follow-up announcement.
- It is best to watch the lessons in sequence the first time around. You can go back to the any (part of any) lesson any time afterwards. You can cover the unit in several sessions.
- For offline viewing, lectures can be downloaded from the links below each lecture.
Activity questions
- These are important. Work these out immediately after each lesson to ensure that you absorbed what was covered in that lesson.
Assignments
- The assignment covering the contents of a particular week will be due on the following week. The schedule of assignments will be announced with the lecture schedule.
