ABOUT THE COURSE

The aim of the course is to provide the scientific basis for the understanding and development of construction materials. It serves as a foundation course for post-graduate students interested in careers involving research, teaching and/or construction engineering, as well as marketing, decision making, innovation and specification related to construction materials. It can also be a capstone course for undergraduates finishing their studies in civil engineering and architecture.

COURSE INSTRUCTOR


Dr. Ravindra Gettu  is a Professor of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras. After completing his PhD degree from Northwestern University (USA) in 1990, he was the Director of the Structural Technology Laboratory of the Technical University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain, until 2004. He has co-authored more than 400 scientific and technical publications in the areas of concrete technology, effective use of admixtures, self compacting concrete, and fibre reinforced concrete. He is currently the Vice President of RILEM, the International Association of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Structures and Systems, based in France and in the Indian Concrete Institute. He has consulted for many leading construction materials manufacturers and projects. He has taught this course for the past 10 years at IIT Madras, along with Concrete Technology.

CERTIFICATION EXAM :

  • The exam is optional for a fee.
  • Date of Exams : October 28 (Sunday)
  • Time of Exams : Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon session: 2pm to 5pm
  • Exam for this course will be available in both morning & afternoon sessions.
  • Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
  • The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published.

CERTIFCATION:

  • Final score will be calculated as : 25% assignment score + 75% final exam score
  • 25% assignment score is calculated as 25% of average of  Best 8 out of 12 assignments
  • E-Certificate will be given to those who register and write the exam and score greater than or equal to 40% final score. Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Madras.It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.
